I have an issue with Kuwaiti ISPs dictating their own numbers for their DSL accounts. I had an issue a couple weeks ago with the FT customer care because their actual speed is much lower than advertised.

I woke up this morning to a sms message: “Bahrain. Next Weekend.” I figured .. a trip this close to the Eid holiday is probably not the smartest thing to do. As always .. the smartest choice is not the one that usually prevails. So off I go to Jazeera Airways to purchase a 5kd […]

Field of Gold.

18Oct06

If YouTube is good for anything; its for having this song. Oud + Sting = Amazing. Enjoy. You’ll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in fields of gold

Problem 1:   They don’t inform you when your package arrives, and there is no contact information on their website. Problem 2:   They only accept online credit/debit card payments (apparently their drivers steal the money .. good to know my package is in safe hands.), and even then, their online payment application barely works. Problem 3:   […]

The internet is back up and running .. that means I will have to start going back to work.

This was posted by Jagu in the comments section; it sheds some light on the current situation: Following the planned outage to relocate the Jeddah terrestrial cable a fault developed in the submarine section at the Jeddah Branching Unit. Due to which traffic will remain in the current condition on the system until the time […]

In an interesting turn of events; websites are no longer blocked if you use Fasttelco. I guess they had to reroute some of their internet connections and forgot to turn on the filter.

The link between Fujairah and Jeddah is undergoing upgrades; hence the internet slow downs and disconnections. The link should be fully operational by 2pm (Kuwait Time). The majority of Gulf ISPs are connected to the Falcon Underdsea Cable (Flag Telecom); when they go do down .. we all go down. Falcon: A new submarine cable […]

Dream on.

03Jul06

I just dreamt that the moon was falling onto the earth, and about halfway done .. it stopped to load. Yes, the moon started loading before hitting the earth. The loading that happens when you are waiting for a youtube video or flash website. The moon stopped halfway through crashing and showed me a hourglass […]

Is flickr being banned by your ISP? Use the IP address to access the site: http://68.142.214.24/ If that doesnt work; there is always Mark’s Proxy. In the meantime, I suggest you write a letter to your ISP kindly asking for them to remove flickr from the list of blocked sites. Qualitynet: support@qualitynet.net Zajil: support@zajil.com FastTelco: […]

I have been waiting for the Nokia N80 since its release/introduction back in November. I figured; 3megapixel camera, upnp, WLan, SIP … blah blah. Basically I figured it would be the perfect phone; So, I have finally taken it out of its box and switched all the data over onto it and so on. My […]

Dubai, review.

18Mar06

The city: I have seen enough pictures and heard enough people talking about how Dubai has changed in the past couple of years and become a futuristic city; therefore, if I walked out of the airport and sawing flying cars I wouldn’t have been in shock. There was something about the Dubai that reminded me […]

Lebanon, still.

26Feb06

Still in Lebanon. Still in the Mountains. Still the same crappy internet. 🙂 However .. great slopes, going for another couple of runs today .. then off the Beirut. This picture took 10 minutes to upload.

Lebanon.

24Feb06

I am probably not going to post for the next couple of days; I am somewhere in the mountains of Lebanon and the internet connection is terrible. However, I am (and will be) taking tons of pictures .. and those will be uploaded when I find a decent connection (Kuwait). Have fun and enjoy the […]

I am sure the majority of you have heard of United Networks by now. It is a new Internet company owned and operated by KIPCO (Wataniya/MarinaFM/Showtime/Half of Kuwait). United Networks is targeting something a bit farther then purely providing Internet and attaching a satellite subscription. I believe United Networks are planning on delivering triple play […]

Fasttelco is up and running, and fast. My first thought was that they piggybacked onto another ISP .. nope, A quick traceroute (the path between you and a website) shows they have their own servers, up and running. The latency (time to send info between you and website) is great (not using microwave sats.). Update: […]

Updates: Rami: Just to update everyone, the fire started around 10:30pm and it hit the whole 6th floor of TEC. KEMS/Zajil shutdown their systems around 1:15am since the temperature got high and they restored it around 5:15am after getting the green light from MOC. Fasttelco got the most hit since they occupy most of the […]

There was a fire at the Town Exchange Communication building in Kuwait City. Fasttelco is down, Qualitynet is up (I think), Zajil is up (You can get internet at wireless hotspots). Me and Nibaq are willing to volunteer, I can crimp cable and do the cisco dance .. he makes tea. Here are some other […]

I hate linux.

14Nov05

Blah .. back to compiling.

Now that Eid has come and gone, my “its Ramadan!” excuse will no longer help in postponing my already interim lifestyle. And to be honest, I am getting quite bored of doing random entertaining tasks in the morning (We cleaned out the attic area above my brother’s bathroom today). So, I decided to meet with […]
